SUMMARY:Quilt Coat Class : Warriewood
DESCRIPTION:2 Day Quilt Coat Class7/8 July\, 2022Warriewood \nIf you’ve got any quilts that no longer spark joy\, turn them into a coat! In this workshop you will learn how to transform your quilts into cosy coats using a pattern suitable for most sizes.  \nThis is a hands-on class cutting quilts and sewing them up into a wearable garment in two days. You may use a quilt you’ve already made\, prequilted fabric or make the quilted panels specifically to make into a coat. Yes\, this is a great opportunity to repurpose those orphan blocks and unfinished projects.  \nWe will cover a variety of pocket\, button\, collar and hood options. Also\, how different wadding\, quilting and lining affects the look and feel of your final quilted coat. By the end of this workshop students should have a constructed a quilt coat\, some binding may need to be done at home.  \nYou will need a quilt with a minimum of 60” x 60” of useable quilted space.  \nFurther requirements and considerations will be provided with the supplies list.  \n(Students will need their own pattern\, I recommend the Tamarack Jacket by Grainline Studio or the Patchwork Chore Coat by Patchwork & Poodles both available online as a PDF)  \nThis is a small size workshop in a well ventilated classroom. Covid protocols are in place to look after each other. Please do not attend if you are sick. DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nBook your spot directly with Sue Miller at Fabric Garden. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Lorena for a Kawandi workshop at Fabric Garden in Neutral Bay\, Sydney. \nTutor: Lorena Uriarte \nTime: 10:00 am – 15:00 pm (includes 30 minute lunch break) \nDate: \n\nSaturday\, 16th July 2022\n\nSkill Level: Beginner \nAbout the course: \nKawandi are traditional quilts of the Siddi people from India\, they are typically made from sari scraps patched together from the outside in. \nIn this one day workshop you will learn how to make your own beautiful kawandi with gorgeous patchwork prints\, wovens and solids. \nStitching is very organic and relaxing\, giving the finished quilt lots of texture. Picking each bit of fabric to complete your quilt can be equally meditative and challenging\, like working on a jigsaw puzzle. \nA class kit is provided with everything you need to complete a small 30cm quilt\, ensuring you learn all the techniques to finish in one day. \nThat’s right\, unlike regular quilts\, kawandi are pieced and quilted at the same time! Making this technique perfect for a beginner quilter\, if you’ve lost your quilting mojo or just need something to stitch on the move without a bunch of tools. \nIncluded: \nYour class kit includes all you need: backing\, batting\, fabric\, 12wt Aurifil thread\, needles\, pins\, threader\, thimble and a special handmade gift from Lorena \nLunch\, morning and afternoon tea are provided. Please advise of any dietary concerns! \nThe class is capped at 8 students\, N95s will be available for anyone who wishes to wear one but please do not attend if you have any covid symptoms.
