Finally, a date for all you keen Melbourne Emmaline Retreat Bag makers. I can’t wait to be back in the fabulous and friendly GJ’s Discount Fabrics Classroom in Fairfield!

You’ve stitched your kawandi panels, bought the hardware kit but discovered you’d like another sewing day to finish your bag… well, this is your chance!

But you don’t have to use Kawandi stitched panels, this pattern looks just as good made up with your favourite quilting or heavier canvas fabrics. Or maybe you have some old tapestries or sashiko panels you’d like to repurpose?

In this one day workshop you will complete your bag and get lots of great tips for working with stabilisers, interfacing, zippers and metal frames. You’ll receive full colour instructions for construction as well as a pattern template to help with cutting.

The pattern we are using is the Emmaline Retreat Bag with some modifications to work with hand stitched panels. Pre order your hardware kit, or a kawandi kit for collection on the day.

Workshop fee includes delicious morning tea and plenty of tea and coffee to keep you on your toes! GJ’s opens at 9am, giving you an hour to shop before class if you need any supplies. You’ll have another opportunity for retail therapy after you finish at 3pm.

You’ll need:

A sewing machine in good working order (and a manual)

Size 90 Topstitch needle (I recommend Superior Titanium)

Strong thread to match your outside fabric for construction and top stitching (eg Aurifil 40wt)

General sewing supplies (scissors, unpicker (!), marking pen, 1/4″ foot /walking foot)

Lining and pocket fabric of your choice

Completed kawandi/ tapestry/ sashiko/ canvas/ quilting fabric for the bag outer pieces

Size 5 zipper (size varies between large and small bag)
