This modern quilt is an ode to the natural world and its power to connect us all. My variation of the traditional Winding Ways design creates a green world surrounded by vast oceans, representing the physical distance that separates us.

Yet, the quilt also includes tiny points of connections, such as bridges and isthmuses, and flight paths that criss-cross the planet, reminding us of the ways in which we are all linked together.

My daily swims in a Sydney rock pool and conversations with my quilting friend Krista @poppyprint , who swims on the other side of the Pacific Ocean, inspired this work. I believe that through exploring art and nature, we can find common ground and celebrate our differences whilst embracing our shared humanity.

At a time when we've often felt isolated, this quilt serves as a reminder of the beauty and interconnectedness of the natural world.

Of course being away at the moment meant that I missed the opening of our “In Conversation” exhibition back in Sydney @gallery76_queenst. I have enjoyed looking through everyone’s photos and reading the comments. Can’t wait to see it in person when I get back home!

Congratulations Tara @stitchandyarn for a beautiful show and thank you for all your hard work putting this together. Right down to the last minute challenge of getting Chawne’s @cauchycomplete quilt from Melbourne to Sydney in time for the opening. What a team effort.

A huge thank you to my wonderful friend and partner in the show @poppyprint. I’m so glad we got to plan our quilts in person and swim together recently during your visit. I think our quilts look fabulous hanging together, different yet complimentary, just like us 💃🏻

Two fun packed days teaching @precioustimefabricandquilts! It’s always wonderful to be back in sunny Toowoomba and catch up with everyone again.

I saw progress on some Chuck Nohara quilts, gorgeous little blocks that will one day become heirlooms! I love seeing the leaps made in construction technique and understanding between visits.

Several new Opal Essence quilts, with their yseams, curved machine piecing and one hand pieced mini EPP version.

A striking 12” Winding Ways cushion by Helen came together very quickly!

Most people also started their own kawandi pieces too, learning a new technique to use up their scraps. Many will be turned into practical Retreat Bags, totes, cushions, wraps and even a table runner!

I've been eyeing this adorable fabric in my stash to make an Emmaline Retreat Bag for my charging gear. It looks like bits of tapestry but it's actually a fun cheater print from Moda called Flea Market Moxie by Cathe Holden. Wish I had bought more of it! 😍

A day full of wonderful colour, excited chatter and delicious cake! The best ingredients when gathering to sew.

🏷️ Lisa brought in her finished Picnic In The Park quilt (pattern by Annabel Wrigley), quilted by @mishmash.quilts

🏷️ Natalie worked on her fussy cut Blissful quilt. Grateful for the additional fabric from @quiltinator, all the way from Vancouver!

🏷️ Mel continues to join her Glitter EPP (pattern by Jen Kingwell) blocks together. This is a labour of love!

🏷️ Kate finished her Swirly Gig quilt! And a Red & White quilt with Lisa, a gift for a friend.

I didn’t get too many photos but we had a lovely day @berryquiltandco. Outside the sun was shining, the birds were tweeting and inside everyone was busy getting things done!

🏷️ Mary finished this gorgeous #emmalineretreatbag with her #kawandi piece from a couple of weeks ago. I loved the fussy cut strawberries on the zipper tabs and neat lining so much that I forgot to take photo of the outside. Doh!

🏷️ Sam has signed up for the #QuiltCoat class in September and will be working on a quilt to cut up! She’s making #megaqstcourthousesteps with a Jelly Roll and some scraps. They are nice big 20” blocks that come together really quickly so it’ll totally work out. Keep going Sam 💫

🏷️ Meredith started a kawandi table runner to take on her island holiday. Lucky duck!

🏷️ Charlotte continued to stitch her Kawandi whilst making decisions about her quilt coat…
