Here we are again - taking perfectly good fabric, cutting it into pieces and stitching it back together, hoping for something interesting.

Because we can never be totally sure, can we? It’s just an idea that needs to be seen through. Even when it feels endless near the finish line, even when you don’t even know if you love it or hate it, there’s only one way to know for sure.

Had a fantastic time at today’s Industry Day with the @australiansewingguild! I was invited to speak about turning quilts into coats, and the audience had some great questions. Such a warm and welcoming group, I loved meeting and chatting with members, the hardworking committee, and fellow guests.

Hearing Stephanie share the incredible work @pubtextiles does with Indigenous artists was so inspiring. Their locally hand-printed designs are a staple in my travel wardrobe!

Thanks to the magic of Zoom, Lucy joined us from Vancouver while her @allbuttons shop kept things running here in Newtown. Her book on buttons was a hit at the sales table!

Texture is what transforms a two dimensional design into something you want to wrap yourself in, something you can’t resist running your fingers over 🥰 I love the precision of piecing and the challenge of design but achieving texture takes a lot of quilting skill🧵✨

I adore the look of free motion quilting but it takes patience (and lots of practice!) I’m more of a straight line quilter who loves to add some hand stitching to finish the job 💪💕

But let’s be real, nothing beats the embossed magic of beautifully done free motion quilting. The way the shadows and highlights dance across the fabric? Just gorgeous ✨💫

I’ve been wracking my brain all day trying to come up with a photo for this prompt… one that I haven’t already posted a hundred times! 😅

Quilt photography is not my favourite part of what I do. I know it’s important, but when there are so many quilts to finish (and even more swirling around in my head) stopping to take photos feels like a distraction.

And yet… every time someone else captures a great shot of my work, I wish I’d taken more. The convenience of snapping endless photos on our phones has probably made things worse - I have stacks of meh and not enough great ones. I really should do something about that… one day.

Four gorgeous Emmaline Retreat Bags went out into the world today @usefulbox in Marrickville! 🥰👜✨

Three were made from kawandi pieces stitched in a previous class and the fourth featured a fabulous retro bark cloth fabric. Every single one turned out AMAZING! 🌟👏 So proud of you all for tackling this project - it’s no small feat to sew zippers, work with multiple interfacings, and install those tricky metal frames, all in one day!

📚 Cath took a detour from her Winding Ways quilt and is now creating an improv text and book quilt for Mother’s Day in May.

🔺 Lisa stitched up a storm with scrappy triangles and is already plotting her next project!

🧺 Soozie reached the magical midpoint on her Kaffe Fassett baskets - such a milestone!

🟣 Karen’s mini Opal Essence EPP blocks are coming together beautifully. They’re destined to become a vest!

🦚 Kath’s 12” sampler blocks are shining - those brights pop so well against the navy Grunge.

🌐 Chris has finished 29 out of 49 Winding Ways blocks. Yay!

Thanks to everyone @60stitches_ for a lovely day.

Day 21 of IG QuiltFest! ✨ And at this point, I’ve skipped so many prompts that you’d be totally justified in wondering why I’m even showing up 😬 But here I am, because - spoiler alert - I’m human!

Once upon a time, quilting was my escape from work and responsibility. Now? The lines between work and play are a blur, and honestly, that’s tricky to navigate. But I believe in play. It fuels creativity, keeps us sane and makes life richer.

So what do I do outside of quilting? Cook, grow veggies, swim, bike, travel, chase sunrises and sunsets, geek out over tech, and say yes to new experiences. And let’s not forget: I talk to strangers. Everywhere. I used to cringe when my mum did this, but turns out, she was onto something - people are fascinating!

My favourite colour? It changes all the time depending on the circumstances but… my eyes always light up and my heart sings when I see the crystal aqua and deep blue of the ocean. It’s my happy place, both restful and invigorating at the same time.

No other project has tested my patience and knowledge quite like these three quilts. Each block comes from Chuck Nohara’s 2001 New Patchwork Patterns - a book filled with thousands of hand-drawn designs but no instructions. Just pure inspiration and endless possibilities.

The challenge? Figuring out the construction, one block at a time. My favourite way to create! 🥰

A quick stopover in LA before heading home to Sydn

A quick stopover in LA before heading home to Sydney 🌏✨ including an epic hike up and down the canyon to see the iconic Griffith Observatory 🏛️🌄 with @sewnatty.

We spotted so much wildlife: squirrels 🐿️ hawks 🦅 and even the cutest little mole 🐾. Plus Natalie’s fun menagerie 🐕🐈🐦 🎏🐢 kept us entertained!

This holiday has been absolutely brilliant! Huge thanks to Joe & Natalie for welcoming us into their gorgeous new home 🏡💖 We definitely felt like movie stars for the day 🎥🌟

Now it’s time for the long plane ride home ✈️ and the inevitable jet lag 😴 But I know the incredible memories from Phoenix, Mexico and LA will keep fueling my creativity and inspiring me for a long time to come 🎉🧵🎨

We had the most incredible day visiting the traditional mezcal palenque Mal de Amor in Santiago Matatlán 🌵

✨ Our guide, Israel, walked us through the entire process: from cutting the piñas to smoking, pulping, fermenting and the double distillation that brings mezcal to life.

🥃 It takes a full month from start to finish and then the mezcal is aged for 6 months to 2 years before being shared with the world.

🌎 This is true small batch craft, made with so much care and tradition. The tasting was unforgettable: such complex, beautiful flavours, unlike any mezcal we’ve tried in Australia.

💚 Thank you to the hard working staff at Palenque del Mal Amor for welcoming us so warmly to your distillery ☺️ An experience we’ll never forget!

An early start today to visit Hierve el Agua befor

An early start today to visit Hierve el Agua before the crowds - and before the heat kicked in on the walk back up the hill! It’s a bit of a trek, but so worth it for a swim in the cool, crystal clear mineral pool with those incredible views.

Hierve el Agua is one of only two petrified waterfalls in the world, the other one is in Turkey. The formations are made from minerals in the spring water that slowly deposit over thousands of years, creating this stunning frozen waterfall effect. Such a magical, peaceful spot.

PS: Hierve el Agua translates to “boiling water” the effect of the bubbling spring. The water is actually cool.
