Create a family heirloom as you make a beautifully crafted sampler quilt. Learn about colour and design, piecing, appliqué, drafting and how to assemble and finish your quilt. By the end of the course you will have a small finished quilt top and have learnt techniques for machine or hand quilting.
Materials required for the first night
- A selection of 100% cotton quilting fabric. Purchase the best quality fabric you can afford, they will make your project much more enjoyable. You can find quilting cottons at specialty patchwork and quilting stores or at bigger chain stores.
- fine hand sewing needles
- pins (fine glass head pins are best)
- 100% cotton thread in a neutral colour that tones into your fabrics ie. beige, khaki, dove grey or charcoal.
- fabric scissors
- paper scissors
- pencils and pens
- you may wish to invest in: rotary cutter, self healing cutting mat and an acrylic ruler.
Quilts last many years, work with fabric that makes you happy or suits your décor. If you are not sure what to buy leave it till after your first class as I always have spare fabric to work from.
To begin with you will need a minimum of 4 different fabrics: chose a medium sized print that you like, select two plain colours or prints that coordinate with it and a smaller complementary print.
